Bacardi Rum

Bacardi Rum is the best selling rum worldwide. It is a pure, high quality rum with a distinctively fine, dry taste. Bacardi, the corporation, is a giant liquor conglomerate that started with a 14 year old immigrant from Spain to the Caribbean port city Santiago de Cuba. Tinkering with different ways to upgrade the quality of the coarse hard rum of the buccaneers Facundo Bacardi y Maso civilized the dark liquor into a smooth and more refined Liquor. He was the first, with his secret formula, to ferment, distill and blend from molasses, a smooth, light colored rum that one could drink straight without mixers or additives.

The Bacardi Rum has a fascinating history set in the mid 1800s and includes the Spanish War, Prohibition, and a feud with Fidel Castro. When Prohibition was ratified in the U.S. States, Bacardi took the approach that if he couldn’t sell his product in America, then America would have to come to the rum, thus establishing Havana as the unofficial U.S. saloon.

The symbols that represent Bacardi are as famous as the rum itself. The palm tree that was planted at Facundo first distillery and the fruit bats that initially inhabit the building are proudly displayed on Bacardi products.

By the mid-1990s Bacardi had bottling facilities located in Australia, Austria, France, Germany, New Zealand, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States, while its spirits were still manufactured in the Bahamas, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Spain--with Brazil, Canada, Martinique, Panama, and Trinidad added to the list.

Bacardi Rum is made by distilling fermented sugar and water. This sugar comes from the sugar cane and after the fermentation; the sweet sticky residue is molasses. The refining process smoothes the flavor and adding fruit, mint, or flavored liqueurs can turn a shot of rum into a flavor filled cocktail. Liquor is graded by proof, whereby a proof % number tells you how much alcohol, by weight, is actually in the product compared to water. The standard bottle of Bacardi Rum is measured at 80 proof meaning that the liquid in the bottle is 40% alcohol by volume. Bacardi also produces a myriad of mixers that already contain rum their alcohol contents are varied, starting around 40% up to70 %. Their highest proof is the Bacardi 151. This top of the line rum is 151 proof giving it a 75.5% alcohol volume. Consumers review Bacardi Rum as one the top rated rum producers. Bacardi Rum is the top selling rum producer in the world.
