Goslings Black Seal Rum
Goslings Black Seal Rum
The history of the Gosling family business starts when James Gosling left England bound for America. After months of poor sailing conditions, the boat could no longer make it to the mainland and instead landed in Bermuda. Here, James opened a shop in December 1806 with the merchandise he had brought with him. The business was such a success, James returned to England and his brother opened another shop in Bermuda, still maintained today. Within three years they were producing their own brand of dark rum.
Goslings Rum was originally sold straight from the oak barrels, most people brought their own bottle to fill or drank it by the cup. After World War I, old champagne bottles were reclaimed from the British Officer’s Mess and filled with the black rum. Needing to be re-sealed, they used a black sealing wax earning the rum the name Black Seal. When people started asking for the Black Seal Rum, the idea of a black seal juggling a barrel was born. Goslings Rum is the only company that blends and bottles in Bermuda and is the island largest exporter of a Bermuda made product for over 200 years.

Goslings Black Seal Rum takes pride the World Spirits Championship and International Rum Festivals that they have won. They receive rave reviews for Gosling's Black Seal Rum, heralded as the "The Spirit of Bermuda".
- Black Seal has a rich intricate flavor, using butterscotch, vanilla, caramel and spices like cinnamon, ginger, and cloves to produce a well balanced dark rum.
- Gold Seal is a lighter rum, superb for sipping or mixing. The taste is smooth but robust with a hint of citrus and tropical flavors with a nutty undertone.
- Old Seal is blended like the Black Seal but aged longer in oak barrels, aging until it has acquired an extra luscious nuanced complexity like a fine Cognac. The ultimate sipping rum.
The Gosling family of rums is bottled foremost as an 80 proof rum, with the Black Seal label also offering a 140 and 151 proof rum. Not exactly a Johnny-come-lately in the rum world, Gosling’s is a brand that’s been around for over 150 years. It also appears the Gosling's is one of the favored ingredients to most cocktails and to fish and meat dishes.
Goslings Black Seal Rum is one of the most versatile rums that one will ever try. No matter what type of mix you may add or whether you drink this straight, the resulting experience will be special.
